Western Shoshone Spiritual Leader Dies
For decades, Corbin Harney was a fixture at anti-nuclear
rallies advocating for peace and protection of "Mother Earth,"
especially his native land, Newe Sogobia, which stretched across
a wide swath of what became Nevada. On Tuesday, Harney,
spiritual leader of the Western Shoshones, died of complications
from cancer in a rural area of Santa Rosa, Calif., his family
and friends said. He was 87. "We have truly lost a lot," said
his nephew, Santiago Lozada, who was at his side when died...www.elynews.com,

Western Shoshone Integral in Stopping Divine Strake Detonation
MERCURY, Nev. - Government doublespeak is nothing new in Indian
country; virtually from the days of first contact, Natives have
been deflecting verbal and political subterfuge, broken treaties
and both covert and blatant threats to Mother Earth. In a
contemporary, ongoing battle and multi-state, multi-agency and
multi-cultural effort to halt what the U.S. government called
''a scientific experiment designed to significantly advance the
nation's ability to defeat underground facilities that produce
and store weapons of mass destruction,'' the Western Shoshone
Nation was at the heart of the feds' decision to back off from
the proposed Divine Strake test detonation...www.indiancountry.com,

The Mountain that will Spit Poison
Mother Earth is not for sale. That's what the Western
Shoshone National Council has told the U.S. government. The

Nevada, Utah, Idaho and into California, but the Nation's
council said: No deal...www.dailysouthtown.com,

Stephanie Salter: A Healthy Skepticism for Federal Activists
The good news is, it
isn’t an atomic bomb and it won’t be detonated between our own
southern Indiana towns of Bedford and Mitchell. The bad news is,
the U.S. government is champing at the bit to explode 700 tons
of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil, and the most desirable spot is
about 85 miles northwest of Las Vegas on desert land still rich
in radioactive sand and soil from nearly five decades of nuclear
tests...www.tribstar.com,
